Probing the fickle boundaries between person and persona, between image and imago, which often sprout under fame’s spotlight, Nicky Giraffe presents her exhibition of paintings and film Casually Intimate: Portraits of Hollywood at Home. In explosions of surrealist color, Nicky reimagines archival photographs of last century’s iconic female artists, from Nina Simone to Marilyn Monroe. Her paintings stretch the shadows that fame and its perpetual scrutiny cast on prominent women from the high-noon sliver barely visible in the photographs into the warped super-self of dusk.
