LA-based artist Leigh Salgado’s new work presents her perceptions of “femininity.” The title Soliloquy reflects the experience of merging personal experiences with public memory, presenting a series of unspoken reflections. Her labor-intensive process involves cutting paper with an exacto knife, altering monotypes with cuts, painting and the addition of eyelets or fasteners, Through recognizable forms and her elevation of what was considered craft-based art, Salgado investigates ideas of the feminine as an act of female empowerment. At the heart of her work — playful, witty, and intricate — is the idea of adornment for the fulfillment of self, a soliloquy to your inner being.
