Saturday mornings are for cartoons. Laying around on the sofa watching shapes containing color move across the screen, across static landscapes- orchards, deserts, boats, houses, forests, up your nose and into the body of a whale. Saturated. There is something about the figures and the forms, the body extends and does things beyond language, defying gravity, stretching and bending. The way speed is described, a spiral of legs, an abstract space. Identification with and identification against the coyote, he’ll never be smarter than the roadrunner- he’ll never be fast or cunning enough to catch him, but he keeps trying newer and bigger methods, knowing the whole time that we, the audience, don’t want to see the prey captured, this isn’t “planet earth”. QUEENS presents ROADRUNNER featuring work by Benjamin Boatright, John Burhtil, Rachel Malin, Nora Riggs and Conrad Ruiz
