Haunts: CalArts 2019 MFA Exhibition
1206 Maple Ave, Ste 1005, Los Angeles, CA 90015
Saturday, August 17 at 6:00 PM 9:00 PM
Ends Aug 24, 2019
Haunts is an exhibition that features new and recent work by over 30 artists, all 2019 graduates of the CalArts School of Art MFA programs in Art, Photography and Media, or Art and Technology. Across three venues in downtown Los Angeles’ Bendix Building (JOAN, Track 16, and
Ste 534), the work in Haunts spans a range of media and approaches, and casts light on the ghosts that follow us—individually and collectively, perpetually and imminently. During a time of transition, the artists in this exhibition present work that probes the phantoms–of institutions, identities, injustices, histories, legacies, desires, friends, and relations–that can both guide and complicate our future choices, actions, and being—whether ignored, confronted, summoned, or suppressed. Haunts is curated by Aurora Tang, an independent curator and researcher, and program manager at the Center for Land Use Interpretation. Artists include:
Santiago Acero, Daniel Andres Alcazar, Nick Angelo, diego barrientos, Beck+Col, Skylar (Mengyuan) Chen, courtney coles, Kira Doutt, Norris L.
