Artist Renée Petropoulos and Oaxacan artisan Arturo Hernández’s We Will Congregate: Platforms & Wool is based on handwoven rebozo blankets created by Hernández with artisans from LA’s Oaxacan community. Focused on forgotten forms of knowledge, such as the craft of weaving, that immigrants carry in their bodies, the work speaks to the challenges of translation and transliteration as well as literary traditions from the Global South and the North, and includes a sculptural and sonic installation. At the exhibition’s reception, there will be Oaxacan food, artisanal goods, and more for sale!
