Visual Artists Group is pleased to present: Art On My Mind. In canonization of bell hooks’ Art On My Mind, eight black artists present works spanning generations and genres in honor of ancestral and modern black art movements. Hooks emphasizes that art is indeed for everyone, and the essential role art plays in black life. The artists presented use their work to explore history within cultural and political movements that manifests through Afrofuturist, contemporary and classical performances and pieces. The amalgamation of form and style mirrors the survival of black peoples through the use of adaptation, subversion, revolution, plasticity, abstraction, improvisation, and reappropriation.
