RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dancing-on-landmines-solo-exhibition-alex-esguerra-tickets-119968704625 From being in the United States Air Force to earning his BFA in Product Design from Parsons, New York, Alex Esguerra comes from a multifaceted background of experiences that ultimately influence his creative work on a daily basis. Exposed to art at an early age, Alex grew up in a household of fine artists and designers. With 14 years of professional experience from digital landscaping, integration design, graphic design, fashion, illustration, interior, and product design, Alex has a natural affinity for the creative and quite literally lives and breathes art. Aside from his company, Love and Paint (2010) which encourages couples to make physical, expressive representations of their physical and romantic connection on canvas using paint, and his full-time position as the VP Group Creative Director at Jack Morton Worldwide. Alex finds his truest creative form in his mixed media works on raw canvas which he creates in his studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. These mixed media paintings will be exhibited for the first time at Wonzimer Gallery in a Solo Exhibition titled “Dancing on Landmines.” The title originates from an excerpt he noticed in his Mother’s sketchbooks after she tragically passed in 2016. Being the force of nature and ultimately Alex’s impetus for his most twisted works of art, he saw those words to be the perfect embodiment of not just her life, but ultimately his. Forget making lemonade, when life drops landmines all around you, you have no choice but to dance your way through. It’s in this way of life that Alex composes colorful darkness throughout the work in this series and attempts to bring levity to tragedy. Through tapping into his truest self and connection to his chaotic upbringing, the process of creation can often be an emotionally exhausting experience. His intention with these works is to draw the viewer in by creating a hyper-stimulative visual experience that evokes a variety of emotions and questions. Ultimately, the work becomes proof that chaos, embolden by love, is always beautiful.
