HAYDEN DUNHAM INFINITE LIFT MAY 1, 2021- May 31, 2021 I noticed it before anyone told me. A cup of water left by the bed: one day it was full, the next day the water was lower. Was someone drinking from the cup? Another person, or something I couldn’t see? I kept what I noticed secret. I had to gather evidence to prove this presence, before I brought it to someone who might question what I’d observed. So I took a clear glass cup, filled it up, and dotted the water-line with black marker. I did this every day until the cup was empty. With all those dots, I had the proof I needed to say: the water is disappearing from the cup; I am not drinking it, but it is still getting lower. They responded matter-of-factly: yes, that is evaporation. But what is evaporation? It is the process by which water becomes vapor. But what is vapor? Vapor is the clouds. Water becomes the clouds and then they rain down and become water again. But how do they do it? It’s just what they do. They told me this like it was simple and small, like it wasn’t going to change the way I lived forever, like the world wasn’t a different place now. Why had they kept this from me? Was it because they didn’t want me to know what was possible? I am made of liquid, after all – why shouldn’t I go where water goes? Why shouldn’t I join the clouds? From then on, I organized my life around water. Any time I had the chance to be submerged, I tried not to be noticed, so that I could stay. I slept in water. I filled myself up with it from the inside out, drinking cup after cup. It might take days, or weeks, or months, or years, but eventually all this water will find the sky, and I will go with it. -Cyrus Simonoff More Info: https://www.artistcuratedprojects.com/filter/PROJECTS/HAYDEN-DUNHAM-INFINITE-LIFT
