The work of Chicome Itzcuintli Amatlapalli explores Mexican and Mesoamerican indigeneity, cultural identity, and issues of decolonization. He explores in his work indigenous spirituality, metaphysics, and history, as well as the traumas of colonization and cultural erasure. His paintings in oil, done in a style reminiscent of Colonial and baroque European art, merge both European and Indigenous traditions.
