Dries Van Noten is honored to announce his invitation to Jim Mangan to present BLAST at The Little House, 451 N. La Cienega Blvd in Los Angeles from June 24th through August 5th, 2023. BLAST is part of a collaboration with Mangan’s long time friend and world renowned rally car driver Ken Block. The two traveled to the desert of southern Utah in a 75-mile stretch of land between Capital Reef and the Goblin Valley. Mangan shot the photographs entirely on 35 mm film. The exhibition will consist of prints accompanied by a film installation documenting Ken Block riding across the dusty terrain of southern Utah. Published by Dashwood Books in 2014, the book has long been sold out. However, there will be signed copies from the artist’s personal collection made available. This will be the first time BLAST exhibits in Los Angeles. Mangan looks at the transforming relationships between humans and the earth, a paradox of friction and harmony. Both Dries Van Noten and BLAST by Jim Mangan are implicitly connected by a wholly unique poetic motion and a journey to the unimaginable through material and landscape. Ken Block tragically passed away earlier this year. This exhibition will in part pay tribute to his legacy.
