Lauterbach was drawn to textiles as a medium in her art due to her family's background in manufacturing and marketing fabrics. Her family's connection to textiles goes back four generations to the Austrian Hungarian Empire. She draws inspiration from an archived inventory of original material saved from her family's former company to produce abstract works that might be defined as stitched collages.
