From the time we wake up using our phone’s alarm to the dinner we eat based on a Yelp search, data on our private human experience is constantly being collected and sold–often with our consent. Zuboff shines a light on this invisible yet pervasive force that knows everything about us, while we know very little about it. After all, it’s not just our privacy that is threatened by surveillance capitalism, but democracy itself. Zuboff is a professor emerita of the Harvard Business School and author of the influential books, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power and In the Age of Smart Machine: The Future of Work and Power.
