Thursday, July 25 at 5:00 PM 8:00 PM
Ends Aug 1, 2019
Come this Thursday, July 25 from 5-8p to celebrate our collaboration with our East Coast friends! Love's Remedies plays host to Fake Woke / Fake News, a group exhibition presented by #DayonesArt and B(A)LM (Black Artists Liberation Movement) featuring work by “Felli” Felicita Maynard, @DIEAMERICAN (Nandi Loaf & Tom Koehler), Kiki Green, Jourdan Savage, XBUNNY, Joaquín Esteban Jutt, and @TofuPowPow. Fake Woke / Fake News illuminates instances of "Political Art" shared via digital platforms. It is a critique of our nation's political crux and glorified imaginative ideologies that reinforce trauma to its citizens. "Alternative Facts" and its crossover use in meme culture - which is then streamlined into mainstream media, day-time television and ALT-Right rallies. Fake "Woke" is an illustration of an Ouroboro and the fragility of the systems of media on our society. Fake Woke / Fake News is open July 25, 2019 from 5-8p and by appointment through August 1.  The Black Artists Liberation Movement is an all-Black artist collective dedicated to creating safe spaces that offer programing and events centered around healing justice, African diasporic unity, cultural preservation, and the upliftment of Black and Brown femmes. The B(A)LM is rooted in the guiding principles of the National Black Lives Matter Network. #DayOnesArt is a Pop-Up Art Fair streamlined to benefit emerging artists and community outreach. This event is a cooperative experience and partnership of B(A)LM and ArtSchoolScammer. #DayonesArt is curated in secret idle spaces around NYC facilitated by The Howard Group. Before these buildings are transformed into affordable housing - we are given a day to transform them into working artistic hubs and true works of art. Further allowing the community to interact with these once uninhabitable spaces. The sole purpose of #DayOnesArt is to promote and support independent artist coming out of urban meccas. The event show cases work from premier muralist from and around the city. #DayonesArt encourages the sales of affordable art without gallery representation through silent auctions. Love’s Remedies is an initiative of Brd and Hannah Kim Varamini, and focuses on building collaborative actions and events with artists, curators and writers across Los Angeles.
