From Us to You: Contemporary Mexican Painting in Times of Change The exhibition is a historical review in a material and discursive way about the interpretations by cartoonists around two fundamental artistic movements in the Mexico-United States relationship during the twentieth century: social realism and abstract art. Movements that are related as part of the creation of the Good Neighborhood Program and the Panamerican Project, under the auspicious of international collaboration. The most well known representative of Social Realism was Diego Rivera, who was also the first Mexican to have an individual exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA). On the other hand, the surge of Abstract Art was supported by the United States government, particularly by the Organization of American States through different projects, such as the ESSO Salon. In their first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, artists Wendy Cabrera Rubio and Josué Mejía explore these themes of international Mexico-United States relations through a series of paintings, sculptures and a live performance. The exhibition includes a performance examining José Gómez Sicre, Cuban art critic and director of Visual Arts of the Organization of American States, who will guide and discuss sketches of mobile frescos, as well as abstract paintings located on the gallery walls.
