You may have heard that the first computer program was written by a woman and that the design of the first computers was inspired by the jacquard weaving loom. But are you aware that computational and mathematical principles are interwoven into all manner of textile arts? New media and textile artist Ahree Lee will discuss the often-overlooked but essential role of women and textiles in the development of coding, and let participants experience the interconnections between fiber-related arts and computing through hands-on making.

Participants will pick up materials for this event (see event page for more details), including a small loom, yarn, and needles to create a project that interprets algorithms in a tactile experience that acknowledges the history of algorithms and their earliest iterations within textile fiber work.
