I see only infinity at every window, and my spirit haunted by vertigo's stress envies the stillness of Nothingness. ----Charles Baudelaire Kylin Gallery is pleased to present INTO THE VOID, an exhibition of new works by Los Angeles & Fukuoka-based artist Yoshio Ikezaki. The exhibition will be on view from July 16 through September 4, 2021, with an opening reception to be held on Saturday, July 17th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This is Yoshio’s third solo exhibition with the gallery.  The new body of work, produced during the lockdown period in Japan, continues Yoshio’s exploration of colors and materials. The exhibition will offer nine paintings and one installation work presented in the second showroom. In any case, he certainly maximizes the potential for fluidity, as if allowing his materials to go for one more run in nature before “locking” them into art. “I try to capture a trace of the enormous energy collisions that occur in nature, ” Ikezaki says, musing on the primordial forces that drive the behavior of his materials and continue to drive each completed piece. "The installation work in the exhibition was assembled by 250 sheets of handmade mulberry paper by Yoshio, using Japanese traditional paper making technique called “Nagashizuki.” Not only the various colors you can see on the paper but also the landscape behind them: desert, deep, grassland, mountains, as the poem by Charles Baudelaire. Works are the windows, allow people to see their inner infinity void", the gallery curator says. Yoshio Ikezaki (b.1953) received his BFA/MFA from the Florida State University. Yoshio has exhibited his work in solo/group exhibitions at venues including Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Artcenter College of Design, Pasadena; Kitakyushu City Museum of Art, Kitakyushu, Japan; Fukuoka City Museum of Art, Fukuoka, Japan; Musashino Art University, Tokyo, Japan; Janina Monkute-Marks Museum, Lithuania; Musée Jean Lurçat et de la Tapisserie Contemporaine, Angers, France. Six pieces of his works will be featured in the traveling group exhibition “Washi Transformed”(curated by Meher McArthur) at various museums, starting October 2021 to December 2024.
