Warith Taha: 9 Failed Attempts at the Self-Portrait (pictured) M+B is pleased to present 9 Failed Attempts at the Self-Portrait, an exhibition of new paintings by Warith Taha, the artist’s first solo show with the gallery. Warith’s practice draws from a diverse field of research ranging from abstraction to 90’s Black Inches Magazines, family photos to found domestic objects, self-portraiture to autobiography. These points of interest become anchors in his ongoing exploration of Black queer bodily visibility and absence. Central to Warith's work is an imagining into how painting can be used as a tool of resistance against historical erasure and inaccuracy. --------------- Mark Thomas Gibson: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood M+B is pleased to announce Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, an exhibition of new works by Mark Thomas Gibson. In Mark Thomas Gibson’s work, America’s past just will not stay dead, even if it might choose to play dead for a news cycle or two. Even Gibson’s images with the greatest graphic punch, reveal strategic layering, conflicting registers, backstories and secret histories. The present reveals itself as a paper-thin scrim pasted over a seething, steaming morass of unacknowledged and unexpurgated sin. We have to look, and it is testament to the power of Gibson’s vision that we keep on looking.
