Berlin based artist Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez and California LA based artist Nellie King Solomon connect. Both cross disciplinary thinkers imbue their materials with meaning. “Paint seems not only to be paint” it is melted materials or a kind of residue of place and past and thought set in motion. In both these artists work materials matter. Materials are a kind of lexicon of meanings consciously mined for their associations. Both artists work in road materials dealing with cars, speed, and the physicality of place and propulsion into personal transformation. Both artist work is created though performative acts with materials as their central player. In PIPELINE Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez will bring part of her Berlin streets a ribbon of silver salvaged stripes that are the mid-lines Fernandez took from Bernauer Straße in Berlin. These are poignant to shown in B-LA connecting Berlin and LA physically. Fernandez works deal with memories, cars, and velocity into primordial snake and sounds. A sound piece, with headphones or played out loud, will accompany her Berlin Street sculptural work. King Solomon’s large-scale paintings on Mylar build upon her UUUUU series to switch back and devour its own internal logics. The UnRavel series and Rip & Flip Frictions of Opposing Fictions in acrylic paint and road materials uncoils the U to subvert their structure stemming from her origins in Ukraine and contemporary context of current events. Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez and Nellie King Solomon are excited to come together on their first joint show at PIPELINE LA and build upon their material conversation in their successive show in the Changing Room Berlin. Artsit Talk Salon Discussion & Sound Art Évent 8:30-8:40pm PIPELINE is a new Project Space featuring one international architectonic and visceral sculptor or happening per month in the nave of Nellie King Solomon’s studio concurrent with Bendix Building openings.
