The Movement Sessions: A Performance Series by Kaylee Gibson Dries Van Noten is honored to announce his invitation to Kaylee Gibson to exhibit The Movement Sessions at The Little House, 451 N. La Cienega Blvd in Los Angeles. The Movement Sessions is a project-based performance series led by multidisciplinary artist Kaylee Gibson bringing together artists, dancers, and musicians in unique spaces to explore ideas through performance and presence. Throughout the month of April, The Little House will host a series of performances celebrating the Earth and inspired by the designs of Dries Van Noten. Saturday, April 8th at 5pm and 6pm: Whitney Schmanski with cellist Sophia Bacelar With the interaction of flowers, Whitney’s unique movement paints the floors of The Little House, layering colors and form, one on top of the other. Instrumentation accompanies her dance. Inspired by the innate knowledge of the body and nature, Whitney Schmanski explores interactions between the mind, body, and environment through movement storytelling, somatic practices, design, systems thinking, and scientific research. Whitney is currently based in southern California and is a freelance dancer for stage and film. She holds a BFA from The Juilliard School and an MFA from UC Irvine. Saturday, April 15 at 5pm: Peabody Southwell and Kaylee Gibson, followed by Mandy Kahn at 5:30pm: Moving through processes of an inner landscape, opera singer Peabody Southwell comes together with dancer Kaylee Gibson in a performance about reverence for nature, within and without. Peabody’s vocals act as an externalization of the dancer's heart which recognizes its thread linked to the greater body of Earth. Described by The Wall Street Journal as “electrifying,” Peabody's performances prioritize vulnerability over control in venues as disparate as the Metropolitan Opera and a colonized Tongva village. A second, interactive performance with Poet Mandy Kahn will be held. She is the author of three poetry collections, Holy Doors (2023), Glenn Gould’s Chair (2017) and Math, Heaven, Time (2014). Kahn’s poems have been included in the Best American Poetry anthology series and in former poet laureate Ted Kooser’s syndicated newspaper column American Life in Poetry. In addition to writing books, Kahn creates works of interactive literature she calls immersive poems. Wednesday, April 19th & Saturday, April 22 at 5pm: Nayomi Van Brunt Nayomi Van Brunt of L.A. Dance Project closes out the The Movement Sessions with two nights of a special dance performance accompanied by a sound installation by Victoria Mordoch, and sculptural florals installed by artist Sophia Moreno Bunge.
