Developments is an ongoing photography project of media artist Daniel Hipólito. Documenting his downtown drifts with a salvaged cell phone camera, he has devised a lo-tech digital urbanism — zooming in on architectural and infrastructural details of our metropolis. Mirror glass curtain walls are a recurrent subject of his hazy gaze, and — considered along with security cameras, cell phone towers, and helicopters — these reflective surfaces suggest a sort of reverse surveillance, re-viewing the visage of the one-way. Aside from Developments, Hipólito issues sound and performs under the name Smokey Emery.
