D. Neil, Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art - Los Angeles and Associate Editor of ArtReviewmagazine and Kristina Newhouse, Co-Curator of David Lamelas: A Life of Their Own.This event is free and open to the public but space is limited and RSVP is required:rsvp.la@spruethmagers.comDavid Lamelas (*1946, Buenos Aires, Argentina) lives and works in Los Angeles and Buenos Aires. A member of early minimalist and conceptual circles in Argentina, he moved to London in 1968 to study at St. Martin's College of Art. He received early recognition, participating in the 1967 São Paulo Biennial, the 1968 Venice Biennale, and Documenta 5, Kassel, in 1972. Important past solo exhibitions include Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2013), Kunstmuseum Basel (2008), Secession, Vienna (2006), Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City (2005), ICA Philadelphia (2004), Kunstverein München, and Witte de With, Rotterdam (both 1997).Jonathan T. D. Neil is head of Global Business Development for Sotheby’s Institute of Art and founding Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art — Los Angeles, a partnership with Claremont Graduate University, the Getty Leadership Institute, the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management and CGU’s School of Arts and Humanities. He also serves as Associate Editor for ArtReview magazine.Kristina Newhouse curates at the University Art Museum, CSU Long Beach. Newhouse has co-curated David Lamelas: A Life of Their Own, with Maria Jose Herrera for the Getty 2017 PST LA:LA Initiative. The publication, David Lamelas: A Life of Their Own is distributed by Getty Publications. Newhouse’s 2016 exhibitions, Rebecca Campbell/Samantha Fields: Dreams of Another Time and McCarren/Fine AND/OR have received support from the Pasadena Arts Alliance. Her 2015 show, Jessica Rath: A Better Nectar was supported by Metabolic Studio and the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation. Her 2014 project with Materials & Applications was partiallyfunded by the NEA Art Works: Design program. In 2011, she presented She accepts the proposition: Women Gallerists and the redeï¬nition of art in Los Angeles, 1967-1977 at the Sam Francis Gallery at Crossroads School as part of the Getty’s first PST Initiative. In 2007, she curated Fran Siegel: Companion at the IX Bienal Internacional de Cuenca in Ecuador.
