Lois Lambert Gallery is pleased to present new works by the Brazilian painter and mural artist Rodrigo Branco in his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, titled “MOLDANDO PEDRA DURA”. In this series of paintings, Branco explores his own narrative through the discovery of a box of family photographs. Through this visual retelling of his family's narrative, Branco creates a new vision for the future while honoring his roots. “TOOLS OF THE TRADE” is a series featuring hyper-realistic common object glass sculptures by artist Carmen Spera. Taken out of their typical context, the work plays with the idea of magic and illusion. The pieces invoke a sense of wonder by giving a glimpse of a common object, followed by the discovery of the material which adds a layer of unreality to the work. These works are focused on examining his process, taking a material as fragile as glass and transforming it into sturdy hardware. For Spera, glass is a truly unique medium, as its translucency can reveal entirely different forms based on the perspective from which it is being viewed.
