FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles (TSALA) is pleased to present Bodies of a Different Mass, an exhibition featuring works by Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia (TSAPHL) members and artists from the Los Angeles area. Bodies of a Different Mass opens Saturday, April 21, 2018, with a reception from 7 to 10 PM, and runs through Sunday, May 13, 2018.Organized by Todd Baldwin, Bodies of a Different Mass aims to explore the ways in which artists collectively create, inspire, and influence without always knowing. This show unites eleven artists from the Philadelphia branch of the Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA) collective with twelve artists from the LA area. Each TSAPHL member selected an artist from the West Coast to collaborate with; some artists have pre-existing relationships, they are close friends or old roommates, while others just admire practices from afar and are “meeting” for the first time. Like the varied relationships of the participating artists, so are the connections between the artwork. The works included span a range of ideas and concepts from performance and multimedia to realistic genre painting and sculpture. Some works share medium, while others are bound by more intangible relationships. Each space is independently operated and focuses on presenting a varied program of emerging and mid-career artists. Our goal is to collectively bring people together, expand connections and build community through artist-initiated exhibitions, projects, and curatorial opportunities. We seek to further empower the artist’s role beyond that of studio practitioner to include the roles of curator, critic, and community developer; and to act as an alternate model to the conventions of the current commercial art market. Tiger Strikes Asteroid is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization.CONTACT: Todd BaldwinTiger Strikes Asteroidphiladelphia@tigerstrikesasteroid.comhttp://www.tigerstrikesasteroid.comOn view at the other Tiger Strikes Asteroid Locations:PHILADELPHIA / 1400 N.
