Ends May 27, 2018
Join us Sunday May 27 at 5pm @ Human Resources! MAPS is pleased to present two works by founder Samantha Blake Goodman and filmmaker Nery Madrid as part of “A Dangerous Obsession: A Thriller of Plastic Moments” organized by Biquini Wax EPS ( Mexico City ) at Human Resources in Los Angeles. Samantha will be presenting her work “Body in River, Head Across Sky” performed by Christopher Bordenave of No)One. Art House, followed by a screening of “Omi Toki — Water is Worthy of Praise” a film by Nery Madrid. The film is a collaborative work that honors life and female ancestry. Samantha’s collaboration offers an exploration of the body as a vehicle through which corporal heritage is preserved, particularly that of the Afro-latinx diaspora. The artist’s collaboration brings the body in movement to the table as one of the many platforms for the narratives of deficiency that constitute the lines of obsessive economic nostalgia, or Naftalgia, this exhibit traces. The screening / performance will be followed by a discussion with the different contributing writers and artist’s in the weekend’s programming. MAPS ( Movement Arts Performance Space) is dedicated to cultivating the contemporary and traditional arts of the Afro-Latinx and Caribbean diaspora in Los Angeles. More info:
