'Su Hija'In Maritza Torres second sola exhibition at Espacio 1839 'Su Hija', Torres approaches the complex layers of brown femme identity through new sculpture and paintings, that ask us to gain strength from our personal narrative. Affording a window where we can peer into where we have been, and where we might
go.In Torres’ first solo exhibition at Espacio 1839 “I Think of You When I See The Color Blue”, she presented work that manifested a grieving process after the loss of her father (Mopi). The work in “I Think of You When I See The Color Blue” highlighted how loss and love go hand in hand. “Su Hija” as a second installment understands how grief, cultural history and self-acceptance create an anchor of personal identity that is both unique and very universal. This series of painting, large drawings and carved sculpture serves as a mirror that sisters and mothers might see their own struggle reflected and know they are not alone. Somos las hijas que imaginase, las cual han estado esperando sin saber lo. Dads and brothers mira we're growing. ♥
