Writer and critic Hilton Als will read a new text from his ongoing body of work that investigates various narratives of race and gender. The reading will be followed by a conversation between Als and poet Robin Coste Lewis.Hilton Als became a staff writer at The New Yorker in 1994 and a theatre critic in 2002. His most recent book, White Girls, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the winner of the Lambda Literary Award in 2014. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in 2017.Robin Coste Lewis is the Poet Laureate of the City of Los Angeles. An essayist and poet, her debut poetry collection,Voyage of the Sable Venus (Knopf, 2015), won the National Book Award for Poetry–the first poetry debut to win the award since 1974
