California Conversations, An art show Featuring Skip Snow with Alex Andrew Sanchez Andrew Wingler Diana Bustamante Liz Walsh Linda Franke Juliette Contreras Maximus Oppenheimer Molly Tierney Nilay Lawson Patrick Donovan Peter Kalisch Steven Thomas Higgins Dominic Quagliozzi Sept 14th thru Oct 12 2018 “California Conversations” organically emerges from a discussion between Ilona, Andrew, The Last Projects team, with Skip. The first concept was a one person show for Skip with a friends wall. Feeling uncomfortable with the concept of a friends wall, Skip Last Projects and his friends realized that when Skip takes just one wall of the gallery, giving the rest of the space to his friends the concept of ‘friend’s wall is a bit subverted, and the friends are better served. "California Conversation's" asked participants 8 questions: How did you become an artist? What have you given up for your work? Where do you work? What do you get from your practice? Cultural hierarchy, how does it affect you? How does the internet change your work and process? If you could change anything what would it be? Why are you an artist? Their answers, sometimes in harmony sometimes in a state of tension, link divergent practices of a virtual conversation.. These answers weave together a commonness, while explaining a bit about each artist’s practice. Along with the exhibit a book / zine / catalog designed by Nilay Lawson will include the the answers these artists have for these questions, images from the show, and other thoughts and images from Skip and his friends.
