Exhibition co-curators Patrick A. Polk and Jeri Bernadette Williams lead a walk-through of Pableaux Johnson's photographs of Second Line Parades and discuss the pageantry and public performance the images document. They will explore Second Lines in the broader context of Black Atlantic festival traditions, drawing cultural connections to Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, and East and Central Africa. Related Exhibition: New Orleans Second Line Parades: Photographs by Pableaux Johnson This exhibition of 40 color portraits by Louisiana-born photographer Pableaux Johnson documents members of African American Social Aid & Pleasure Clubs in New Orleans. These neighborhood-based associations are renowned for elaborate attire worn for Sunday brass band parades known as Second Lines.
