The exhibition, titled after the Roman God Janus, explores the symbolism of transition and new beginnings. Kydd reckons with middle-age as a woman, mother, wife, artist and human being, presenting images that convey the drift of time that carries our memories into nostalgia. As women in the early stages of a new paradigm, it is the responsibility of female elders to tell our stories. With Janus Rising, Kydd considers a different future and identity as her role as a mother starts to shift. Each image is an exploration of time’s passing, as Kydd explores the interplay between fragility and strength and the resilience of self. Drawing strongly from nature, this intimate documentation includes 25 to 30 photographs using both alternative and contemporary photographic processes.
