BabyMaybe PØST Kamikaze Show When you create somebody, you impose all the risks of life on them! BabyMaybe is an interactive project incorporating audio, photography, video, and installation that explores the personal and complex stories of women and their relationship to parenting across age and time. The artist, Labhkand Olfatmanesh, aims to captures the raw human emotion generated by the experiences of people interacting with "real-life" dolls to find a way to point the viewer towards love and self-realization. The project exists in the context of current social issues around parenting: refugee children, family separation, climate change and overpopulation, economic hardship and sanctions, and the conservative "pro-life" movement. A semi-narrative experimental film will layer in fictionalized elements with a live soundtrack along with a courtyard installation incorporating The Word On the Street by artist Scott Froschaeur, projections.... and much more to explore. She has spent the last year personally experimenting with bringing these dolls into various settings, including international travel to Japan, Morocco, Cyprus and the UK and here in Los Angeles. This exhibition is the project's launch and initial public inquiry into these outward expressions of inner experiences and ideas across cultures and settings. PØST is now nomadic. The exhibits will be hosted at MiM gallery. In the month of July, PØST will present thirty-one different exhibits. The 2019 July Kamikaze exhibits continue in the same tradition as the other Kamikaze exhibits that have been presented at PØST since September of 2009. Difficult times invite difficult gestures. By design, these exhibits remain close to art and distant from the other stuff. In the future, a book will be produced for each Kamikaze month.
