Los Angeles Is Endless Like A Scroll. feat. Spatial Awareness Network (SpAN) with Sara Suarez. Join us for Public Programming, an experimental film series with monthly screenings of some of the public domain's film, radio, and literary material - some reused, some reprogrammed. The July event, Los Angeles Is Endless Like A Scroll, will explore the infinite cities of Los Angeles, from the incidental backdrop city found in early Hollywood productions, music videos, and classic skateboarding tapes to the prismatic virtual city of social media and video sharing sites. Between the two, an array of field recordings and archival footage will capture multiple extant cities by passing through at multiple speeds–by car, by bike, on foot. Visuals remixed by Sean Deyoe & Taylor-Fitz Gibbon of SpAN, accompanied by soundscapes & “The Pedestrian” (1951) remixed by Sara Suarez. The series aims to investigate changes in the commons of the urban and cultural sphere and facilitate public engagement with works of critical and creative archival research. The screenings in the 2019 season respond to a shared theme, City Similes. A collection of artists or architects will join the series for each screening, providing perspective, context, and historical material alongside recent work.
