Love's Remedies' last gathering as part of their year-long residency thanks to CalArts at the REEF/LA Mart. ~ Love’s Remedies called - Eli Smith responded. Eli Smith called - BRD and Scarlett Kim responded. Eli, BRD & Scarlett called - Hannah Varamini, Aparna Bakhle, Beth Fiedorek, Sydney Mills, Parch Es, Elizabeth Preger, Carolina Vargas, Anthony Storniolo, Jinglin Liao, and Chance Lang responded. Tom Orvis, Justin McGrath & Anthony Storniolo contributed labor and expertise. Attention as material. Spatial script as prompt. Reverberant dialogue, absence, support, containing, caring. What is primary? How do we hear each other? How do we perform for each other? To what end? Where is agency and where is letting go? Love’s Remedies gently holds Eli Smith’s “Talent Show” call - a proposition introduced in the spirit of doing and quickly put to the test as Eli’s pregnancy manifested support mechanisms and surrender to trust as BRD and Scarlett enacted their responses, together and apart. Artists inhabiting the armature of “Talent Show” respond to these contingent layers of intimacy and remove. Throughout the week of September 7-14, artists respond to one another’s calls. Come be a part of these loving gestures - a work-in-progress, dialogue-as-work conversation!
