British-Venezuelan curator and art historian, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill and Bolivian American artist, Donna Huanca, will be in conversation, discussing ideas not only embedded in, but embodied by OBSIDIAN LADDER, including spirituality, ritual, the feminine, diaspora and institutional power structures. Through looking at historical female artists, specifically from South America, whose practices grappled with similar ideas, Fajardo-Hill explains the context in which Huanca’s work is rooted, allowing for a dialogue around the various layers of OBSIDIAN LADDER, from collaboration to material to performance. How does Huanca directly address the complicated position of the feminine today and where does it leave us? This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
