SOVO// Magazine and The Neutra Institute Museum are pleased to present an evening of discussion on neuroscience and architecture with Dr. Thomas Albright on Thursday, November 7th from 6—9pm. The event is free, but space is limited. Please RSVP via hello@sovomagazine.com. _______ABOUT DR. TOM ALBRIGHT Dr. Tom Albright is a professor and the Conrad T. Prebys Chair at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where he joined the faculty in 1986. He is also Director of the Salk Institute Center for the Neurobiology of Vision and Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego. Albright is an authority on the neural basis of visual perception, memory, and visually guided behavior. His laboratory seeks to understand how visual perception is affected by attention, behavioral goals, and memories of previous experiences. Albright’s work uses our growing knowledge of the brain, perception, and memory to inform design in architecture and the arts, and to leverage societal decisions and public policy. Albright advocates the promotion and advancement of knowledge that links neuroscience research to a growing understanding of human responses to the built environment. Albright’s research has placed him at the forefront of his field and directly applies to the work of architects and designers. The combined research of Albright and his colleagues speaks to the future of design through the use of evidence-based approaches to create highly relevant, and highly desired, spaces and experiences. Albright received a Ph.D. in psychology and neuroscience from Princeton University. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and an associate of the Neuroscience Research Program. In addition, he is past-president of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (2012-2014), a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Science, Technology, and Law, and a member of the U.S. National Commission on Forensic Science. Dr. Tom Albright is featured in the SOVO// Magazine [ Issue 6 ] editorial on the Salk Institute. [ Issue 6 ] is titled STRUCTURE and addresses topics in architecture and design. This talk is part of a three-week-long exhibition on the work from STRUCTURE. [ Issue 6 ] is now available for pre-order at s ovomagazine.com.
