LA UP Gallery Proudly Presents, CHARMED DE-CON-STRUCTED: A JULIE ARNOFF RETROSPECTIVE Join us as we honor one of Los Angeles' renowned staples in the art community, Ms. Julie Arnoff, with a look back at over 4 decades of art, passion, color, energy, and charm! As an integral part of the Los Angeles art scene, Julie Arnoff has been featured in galleries, publications, productions, and live events. While known for her spot-on portraits of beloved pets and people alike, Julie's more introspective and vivacious abstracts and raw expressive works have been kept from the public eye, until now. At the exhibition, guests will be welcome to tour her live-in studio in the Historic Santa Fe Art Colony in South Downtown Los Angeles, and take a peek behind the curtain of hundreds of never before seen pieces. As some of you may know, the new owners of the Santa Fe Art Colony are not honoring the original agreement with the city to keep the colony residences and studios available to artists at low costs. Because of the lack of regulation on rent increases, the SFAC residents have experienced recent rent increases of 200-300+%, causing many artists and families to be forced out of their spaces. With recent news coverage and legal action, the tenants are fighting back, though little headway has been gained thus far. Julie has been slapped with a huge rent increase (over 200%, though initially 300%), despite living in the colony for over 30 years, and is facing the future, though hopeful with growing awareness and legal action, with a heavy heart with the possibility of being forced out. During this celebration, a "Win a Portrait" drawing will be held, with $10 ticket donations to help fight the rent increases. All donations are at will, and greatly appreciated in this difficult time.
