A three-part anecdote about the delicacies of desire and fragile facades. _ Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Austyn Rich is a recent graduate of USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance’s Inaugural Class of 2019. Austyn’s mission is to challenge the unchallengeable, move the unmovable while wearing the unwearable. His works crafts trauma into triumph using movement as a tool for healing, pleasure and pain. He has performed in works by Dwight Roden, Bill T. Jones, William Forsythe and commercial works of Solange Knowles-Ferguson, Adidas Originals, Serpentwithfeet and many others. The New York Time writes that his solo “Sigh, This is Probably the Longest Title in History and Very Exhausting to Read in One Breath showed influence of both Mr. Forsythe and street dance in his emotive paean to those killed by police brutality.” Davia Spain is a musician, filmmaker, and performance artist creating work that explores art as a mode for personal and communal healing. She connects her foundation in chamber music with her fascination for all types of electronic music making a beautiful concoction that is both old and new, hard and soft, sweet and bitter. The rigor of classical training combined with the experimental spirit of the underground performance art scene gave Spain the tools to create works that are equally visceral and thought provoking. The ideological currents of her work are rooted in Afro-futurist theories of time and space prompting Spain to reimagine the past, make predictions of the future, and pull possible outcomes into the present. $15-20
