Proceeding the long history of artists working in isolation, either by choice or by circumstance, recently, artists have been forced to adopt more solitary artmaking practices. The exhibition brings together recent works contextualized by social distancing measures and the resulting physical isolation from one another. Whether an invited pause or unwelcomed restraint, each artist’s experience of solitude during the global pandemic is unique, while at the same time, distinct shared themes emerge.
In dialogue, the works in the exhibition may touch on but are not limited to themes of implied absence, isolated subjects, familial relationships, reimagined domestic spaces, loneliness, introspection, mortality, upended plans, undetermined time, viral circulation, digital communities, and virtual realities.
