Holocaust Museum LA presents “Inside the (Acid-Free) Box: Symbols of Hate and the Nazi Propaganda Machine,” Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m. This virtual view inside the museum archives will explore the Nazis’ use of the swastika, the Heil Hitler salute, the Nazi eagle and the SS skull and crossbones to promote a notion of a racially pure ‘Aryan’ people, while simultaneously excluding and ostracizing groups they viewed as inferior.
Led by Jordanna Gessler, the museum’s vice president of education and exhibits, and Christie Jovanovic, collection manager, the January installment of the exclusive series will offer an in depth look at Nazi symbols that were either perverted or by design came to represent hate, racism, and antisemitism. Gessler and Jovanovic will examine the carefully crafted propaganda used to push forward the radical Nazi agenda and create Hitler’s cult of personality.
