Cara Benedetto: Origin of Love and Other Tales of Degradation
2276 East 16th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Saturday, January 9 at 1:00 PM 3:00 PM
Ends Jan 9, 2021
Night Gallery is pleased to host a reading and a reaching by Cara Benedetto this Saturday, January 9th, at 1pm PST. Benedetto will read from her new book, 'Origin of Love and Other Tales of Degradation,' published by Night Gallery in November 2020. The reading will be followed by a Q&A with the artist. 'Origin Of Love and Other Tales of Degradation' serves as a stage for further intra-actions including collective writing workshops, an interactive website, and this upcoming reading/reaching. Benedetto has worked in the expanded book field since her first solo show 'Breaking Waves – How Fake Stakes Ate the Cake' at Taxter & Spengemann (New York, 2011) where she self-published 20 shrink-wrapped books, each based on a relationship to one other person. Throughout the course of the show, Benedetto invited people to unwrap and read from their book highlighting an economy based on relationships rather than a static object. Benedetto states, “The book form is a bound structure that allows for characters and participants to explore how they are bound up in one another and their own desire." 'Origin of Love and Other Tales of Degradation' is a Night Gallery publication. The book was designed by nicole killian. Copyright Cara Benedetto, 2020. The book is available in print and digital editions from Night Gallery. It can be previewed on the Night Gallery website. Cara Benedetto (b. 1979, Wausau, Wisconsin) has presented solo exhibitions at Night Gallery, Los Angeles; and Chapter NY, New York.
