The Department of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara is pleased to present the Master of Fine Arts 2020 cohort exhibition and accompanying reception, entitled Unending. The exhibition will feature the work of Serene Blumenthal, Kio Griffith, Megan Koth, Marshall Sharpe, Thomas Stoeckinger, and David Wesley White, working across the mediums of sculpture, photography, installation, video, and painting.
In this belated exhibition, originally intended as a culmination of their MFA degrees in the Summer of 2020, these artists take up the personal and cultural cycles of grief & transformation in order to congeals a new vision. Unending is a registration of the past broken by the present, allowing for deeper contemplation and immersion to take place. In the past year, the world has experienced a rare full-halt, allowing for reflection on just how intrinsic production & reproduction are to the demands of an earth-destroying capitalist paradigm and the entanglement of artists within this system. Unending showcases the collapse of time, tradition, and production, culminating in something more slowly realized and returned to.
The exhibition will be on view from August 21, 2021 to September 12, 2021 at the Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art (MCASB). The museum hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
An opening reception will be held at the Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free and open to the public.
