They discuss their roles as esteemed artists, writers, and educators in shaping public discourse about art, power, and social movements. This is the fourth and final program related to the exhibition Photo Flux: Unshuttering LA. A pivotal figure in Conceptual Art, Charles Gaines interrogates the discourse of aesthetics, politics, and philosophy through a variety of media. Gaines has had numerous exhibitions at venues including Dia: Beacon (2021), Hammer Museum (2015) and the Venice Biennale (2007). Harry Gamboa Jr. is an artist, writer, and educator. He is the founder and director of the international performance troupe, Virtual Vérité (2005–2017). He is also a co-founder of Asco (1972–1985), the Los Angeles-based performance group. jill moniz is an independent-minded curator of visual narratives. Her curatorial investigations launched from her nonprofit project space Transformative Arts support local artists in site-specific installations and exhibitions. Her noted exhibitions in Los Angeles include LA Blacksmith at the California African American Museum (2019–2020), The RIDDLE Effect at Craft Contemporary (2019), and Photo Flux: Unshuttering LA, currently on view at the Getty Museum.
