MSML by Amel Janae Open Hours Leiminspace proudly presents My Skin, My Logo, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by San Diego-based artist Amel Janae. The opening reception takes place on Saturday, August the 7th, 2021 from 5-10 pm. In order to accommodate for the safety of our community, we ask that all visitors wear face masks when entering the space. The exhibition will remain open for viewing during typical open hours, Thursdays - Saturdays, 1-6 pm until August 28th, 2021.       In My Skin, My Logo, Amel Janae shares a series of large-scale oil paintings rendered directly onto glass mirrors. Each of the works represents a deeply meditative exploration of the body’s surface. The magnified sections of the body welcome viewers to venture into the skin’s topography of bumps and folds, honoring those features which make each body complex and individual. The viewer’s own image is reflected by the mirrored surface in the negative spaces of the works, a confident nod to the self-reflective process which the artwork provokes in its viewers. Framing this visual meditation is a message of warmth and self-empowerment, indicated by the eponymous Solange song, My Skin, My Logo, which played a formative role in Janae’s personal journey toward autonomy and self-celebration.
