Ends Feb 20, 2022
Please join us in celebrating the much-anticipated launch of the artist book re:connections on Feb. 20, 2022, 2-5 pm at the Mackey Apartments Block Party hosted by MAK Center.
A limited amount of the 96-page, numbered edition artist book featuring works by 19 graduates in the CalArts School of Art and Critical Studies will be available at the event. The book accompanies the exhibition with which it shares its name, curated by Audrey Min at Tin Flats Los Angeles (Aug. 5-31, 2021).
At 4 pm, the event will culminate in a panel discussion among CalArts visiting faculty and Guggenheim Fellow Zoe Strauss; Tatum Howey (Creative Writing MFA 21), PhD candidate at UCSD; curator Audrey Min; and CalArts faculty Ashley Hunt.
re:connections includes reflections on artistic practice before and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, offering unique insights into process: from research materials and correspondence, to in-progress and finished works by members of CalArts’ 2021 Art MFA cohort: Danielle Trent, Yaozhi Liu, Seongeun Kim, Benjamin S. Gordon, Shan Ni, Eleanor Francis, Juan Herrera, Fía Benitez, Dongpu Ling, Jing Dong, Aimée Dopa, Caleb Craig, Lois Bielefeld, Ruoyi Shi, Dana Carly Eitches, Amanda Bauer, Kendra Le Bault de La Moriniere, and Richard Nam, as well as an introduction by Tatum Howey. Visit re:connections for more information.
The Block Party includes an open house of the Mackey Apartments, a presentation of projects by current Artists- and Architects-in-Residence, a peek into Lindsey Adelman's studio, and a playlist by Kristin Posehn to accompany the exhibition Inverted Dome. Tacos and refreshments will be served.
This is an outdoor event. Masks, and proof of vaccination or negative test required.
