Tom Eckert forms his sculptures entirely of wood, using a traditional process to carve, construct, laminate and paint each piece. This latest work of art addresses the ideas of illusion and deception. Eckert believes that covered forms are more evocative than those that stand alone. These veiled objects allow for a sense of mystery that is otherwise absent from the uncovered object itself. Forms meticulously carved out of wood to appear as cloth reoccur throughout his pieces, aiming to confuse the viewer and challenge their impressions of reality.
