NOON Projects is honored to present a two-person exhibition featuring the Ludwig Series (Parergon to a Domestic Symphony), a collection of multi-use furniture by Joseph Magliaro and Fade In, a new group of paintings by Matt Lifson. Both artists’ practices can be defined by a conceptual and technical rigor. Their work, while formal and strong, highlights a sensitivity and softness in their respective disciplines of design and painting. The Ludwig pieces are solid colour block forms with hard edges and stand out as adaptable, playful additions to furniture design. Lifson’s paintings, while classical in form and technique, present the male figure as vulnerable, erotic, and melancholic. Each body of work cohabitates and holds space for each other in a familial way. The exhibition aims to present a perspective on a new style of sensitive masculinity for the Aquarian Age. Believed by some to have begun in 2012, this 2150-year astrological cycle is defined by a shift from “me” to “we” and focuses on compassion over competition. Together, Magliaro and Lifson create a juxtaposition that exemplifies/illustrates the precipice on which we all stand, an opportunity of rectifying and healing an antiquated definition and standard of masculinity.
