In the land of milk and honey dreamers young and old, a man delivers handmade images that are the protagonist, the meter, the feeling of this magnificent utopia of Los Angeles. Aubrey Longley-Cook weaves
reflections of film clips from the dreaming land. Film Studies encompasses 13 stills. From a young age
Aubrey was inspired by his mother and grandmother to learn needlepoint. Wrangling these images onto finely woven aida
fabric, the artist gives back to the city that which was given to him. A reflection, an understanding and yes,
maybe even a knowing is manifested through these magical stills.
The images bring us into Aubrey’s world crafted from hours and days of patient cross stitching. A tenacious
labor that moves these images carefully to us.
An undergraduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, Aubrey’s animated technique was
nurtured for years. These film stills are us. They are the city we love. They are Aubrey Longley-Cook.
