Screening: Cal State LA Community Impact Media Documentaries Fall 2022 Premiere
901 East 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90013
Friday, December 16 at 6:00 PM 9:00 PM
Ends Nov 23, 2022
In collaboration with The California State University Los Angeles Television, Film, and Media Department, join us at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles for a screening of two student-directed short films featuring nonprofit organizations in California – Crop Swap LA and Las Fotos Project – each dedicated to providing opportunities to underserved communities of color in East & South Los Angeles. The screening is the culmination of the semester-long Cal State LA course, Community Impact Media. The Fall 2022 semester students focused on food insecurity and creative mentorship through documenting the respective work of Crop Swap LA and Las Fotos Project. Community Impact Media, a shared project between the university and the gallery, provides neighboring youth with hands-on media making and storytelling mentorship toward the production of video projects written and directed by the student filmmakers. It not only encourages students to reimagine the role of filmmakers as neighbors and citizens committed to meaningful social change, but also illustrates each organization’s commitment to engage and develop a positive, lasting relationship with their shared LA community. This event is free to attend and open to the public, however, due to limited seating, reservations are recommended.
