Aldo Chaparro Studios is pleased to present CERAMIQUE, hosted at their Aparador LA project space dedicated to artistic experimentation by Chicano curator Bryan Munguia and Latin American artist Aldo Chaparro. The exhibition partners with local artist Maya Fuhr and her non-profit collective CLAYDD to include an extensive survey of the diverse amorphous forms of ceramics existing both within and beyond the contemporary art canon,
with proceeds from the show going into funding CLAYDD workshops for special-ed students across Los Angeles, aiming to spread mindfulness and creative expression through the healing qualities of clay.
CERAMIQUE offers a rare spectrum of ceramic works highlighting caricatures of the subconscious rendered from recesses of the imagination. Here, creation is in direct conversation with the boundless opportunities of clay- inviting a diverse cohort of participating artists from mid-career ceramicists like Jennifer Rochlin to local breakout talent like Karla Canseco and Lizette Hernandez.
An embodiment of raw creativity wouldn’t be possible without a presentation of sculptural works made by students in collaboration with CLAYDD Collective’s clay workshops, curated alongside the exhibition’s twenty professional artists. These works collectively point to clay as a system of organic matter, acting as building blocks of wild creativity not bound to a canon but instead liberated in its symbiotic relationship with nature and artistic intuition.
Here, raw earth materials are molded and transfigured into unique aesthetic expressions, creating an environment of fantasy, wonder, and research. Each participating artist offers their niche to this creative habitat, allowing this exhibition to exist as an in-depth study of the varying forms found in sculptural objects that all share the same clay-based origin.
The exhibition is on view until January 15th, 2023, by appointment only. Appointments available by emailing
