Tufenkian Fine Arts is pleased to present, Joanne Julian: Garden Spirits, a solo exhibition of works on paper by Los Angeles-based artist Joanne Julian. This exhibition will feature a selection of small-scaled framed works as well as larger vertical scrolls from the artist’s ongoing “Botanicals” series. The exhibition will be on view from June 30 to July 29, 2023 with an artist reception to be held at the gallery on Saturday, July 15 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Joanne Julian’s practice traces the exploration of contrasting elements and profound moments. Her artworks skillfully capture the interplay between light and dark, spontaneity and precision, fear and joy, and youth and age, often encapsulated within a single vision. Through her drawings, she achieves an intoxicating blend of freedom and restraint, evoking dreamlike experiences. Influenced by Japanese print designers like Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, as well as Japanese Zen brush painting and calligraphy, Julian's work exhibits a remarkable harmony between black and white, and a delicate balance between negative and positive space. _________________________________________ Tufenkian Fine Arts is pleased to announce, Garo Antreasian: Abstract Geometries, a solo exhibition of paintings and prints by Garo Antreasian. This exhibition will feature work from three decades of the artist’s career, spanning from the 1980s through the 2000s. The exhibition will be on view from June 30 to July 29, 2023 with an artist reception to be held at the gallery on Saturday, July 15 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Garo Antreasian is rightfully situated as one of the most influential pioneers of contemporary printmaking and painting of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Antreasian’s rhythmic architectural, geometric, and ornamental shapes and colors, synthesis of multiple visual and textual traditions, and subversion of distinct artistic categories all point to the breadth of his multifaceted and ambitious creative output. As a comprehensive representation of Antreasian’s oeuvre, Abstract Geometries, aims to provide a new avenue through which to explore the artist’s works. _________________________________________ Tufenkian Fine Arts is pleased to announce, Hagop Hagopian: Mannequins and Landscapes, a solo exhibition of paintings and watercolors by Hagop Hagopian. This exhibition will feature Hagopian’s mannequin paintings which the artist explored during the last ten years of his life as well as a selection of watercolor landscapes. The exhibition will be on view from June 30 to July 29, 2023 with an artist reception to be held at the gallery on Saturday, July 15 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This exhibition presents two distinct bodies of work within Hagopian’s celebrated oeuvre — his emotionally charged mannequin paintings and the artist’s tender landscapes of the Armenian countryside. The selected works in this exhibition probe Hagop Hagopian's interest in the exploration of human emotions, relationships, and the enigmatic nature of life. The use of mannequins in Hagopian’s later paintings serve as a means to convey universal experiences and sentiments that are both intensely personal and familiar to viewers. The landscapes depicted by Hagopian in his watercolors are often restrained in color, muted and desolate, with lines sharply delineating the crystalline architectonics of their mountains, fields, and plains.
