Carlye Packer is pleased to present Foundations, a group show curated by Jason Roussos featuring eight noteworthy Los Angeles-based artists: Emmanuel Louisnord Desir, Ross Edward Doyle, Sharif Farrag, Magdalena Frimkess, Grant Levy-Lucero, Acacia Marable, Sterling Ruby, and Marley White.
The exhibition brings together mixed media wall works, anthropomorphic sculptural forms, and illustrative ceramics, to create a play of objects, where strange items interact in a narrative that reflects the diversity of production coming out of Los Angeles.
Through the whimsical arrangement of cultural symbols spanning national histories, cinema, and the Western landscape, Foundations explores the ways in which artists dare to dissect and traverse boundaries of craft; softening the line between traditional utility and fantasy. By learning and departing from classic forms, each artist hones their own traditions as a maker and storyteller.
Foundations opens Saturday, July 29th, and runs through September 16th.
